About MRCM Services

Together, we build a stronger future

Every diagnosis, prescription, procedure, and decision carries responsibility. Not just to patients, but also to the profession itself. Yet behind every healthcare practice lies another reality many professionals rarely talk about: the growing complexity of medico-legal risks.

It was this understanding that led to the establishment of Multi Risk & Claims Management Services (MRCM).

Established in 1994, MRCM was built with a simple but important purpose, to provide healthcare professionals in Malaysia with structured professional indemnity protection backed by practical medico-legal understanding and long-term industry experience. At a time when professional indemnity solutions for doctors in Malaysia were still limited, MRCM became one of the pioneers in developing locally supported medical indemnity protection frameworks in collaboration with insurance partners.

The journey began in 1994 with coverage designed specifically for General Medical Practitioners. As the healthcare landscape evolved, so did the need for broader professional protection. In 2003, the scheme expanded to include General Dentists and Pharmacists. By 2013, coverage was extended further to include low-risk medical specialists, while dental protection expanded to all dentists, including specialists. In 2020, the low-risk category was broadened to include additional specialists, before evolving further in 2022 to encompass all classes of medical, dental, and allied healthcare services, as well as related establishments.
This steady expansion reflects MRCM’s long-standing commitment to growing alongside the healthcare profession and responding to the changing realities of clinical practice and medico-legal exposure.

Today, MRCM works in strategic collaboration with Great Eastern General Insurance Malaysia Berhad (GEGM) to provide locally underwritten professional indemnity solutions tailored for healthcare professionals across Malaysia.

But beyond policies and protection, MRCM’s foundation has always been rooted in medico-legal risk management.

A key strength of MRCM lies in its medico-legal advisory capabilities, supported by experienced clinical and legal expertise. This includes the contribution of Dr KM Ponnusamy, MBBS (Belgaum), LLB (Hons) (London), CLP (Malaysia), a medico-legal consultant with more than two decades of experience in medical risk management. Over the years, he has reviewed and investigated more than 1,000 medico-legal claims and has served across various regulatory, ethics, and patient safety-related bodies within Malaysia’s healthcare ecosystem.

This depth of experience allows MRCM to approach professional indemnity differently, not merely as an insurance arrangement, but as part of a broader framework of professional support, claims understanding, and responsible clinical practice.

The strategic and operational direction of MRCM’s indemnity ecosystem is further supported by Suresh Aru, Principal Medical Indemnity and Claims Advisor, whose focus includes the structuring of indemnity solutions, strengthening operational alignment, and improving accessibility and clarity for healthcare professionals navigating increasingly complex insurance and medico-legal environments.

Over time, MRCM has also evolved beyond conventional insurance facilitation to a more integrated, digitally supported service model. Recognising the challenges healthcare professionals face with fragmented and time-consuming insurance processes, MRCM has introduced structured digital workflows to improve accessibility, service efficiency, and communication across underwriting, renewals, and policy management.

Today, healthcare professionals can access professional indemnity and selected general insurance solutions through a unified platform designed to deliver a more seamless and coordinated experience.

At the heart of MRCM remains a simple philosophy, professional protection should be accessible, structured, and supported by people who understand the realities of healthcare practice.

Claims management, in particular, remains one of the organisation’s most important pillars. MRCM approaches claims handling with an emphasis on fairness, professionalism, transparency, and constructive resolution. This recognises that medico-legal matters involve not only technical and legal considerations, but also human and professional realities.

With over three decades of experience, MRCM continues to support healthcare professionals across Malaysia through structured indemnity frameworks, insurer collaboration, medico-legal advisory depth, digital capabilities, and long-term professional engagement.

As healthcare continues to evolve, so too does the need for stronger protection, clearer guidance, and more responsive support systems.
